Give a brief sketch of the character of lomov ?
Ans:-
‘Ivan Vassilevitch Lomov‘ was a landowner who lived next door to Chubukov. He was known to suffer from a number of nervous disorders which caused him to feel constantly depressed.
The 35-year-old Lomov is well aware that he is at a critical age to get married. He had proposed to Natalya, whom he believed to be an excellent housekeeper, well-educated and modestly attractive.
However, when he finally musters up the courage to propose, he fails to make his intentions clear to Natalya and instead gets into an argument with her. Natalya was known to be confrontational and abusive during arguments and this only increased Lomov’s emotional tension.
In this struggle, Lomov suddenly faints and loses consciousness. When he regained consciousness, Chubukov quickly offered Lomov’s hand to Natalya. Lomov hoped that his marriage to Natalya would bring him some happiness and stability in his otherwise turbulent life.
